Martine and Marijn have been watching the news while preparing for their trip and reading about the energy profiles of the countries they would visit. Abstract concepts such as being ‘energy-dependent’ on Russia became more visible every day. No need to travel, to understand more fully that working on sustainable, affordable and accessible energy supply is worthwhile for anyone, anywhere one could say.
And yet; it’s difficult to truly understand the relation between ‘a lousy’ energy system and ‘a malfunctioning society’ or vice-versa. Thinking about energy-politics from a comfortable chair, in a well-heated bright apartment in energy-abundant Amsterdam, is to say the least, prone to stereotypical thoughts and ideas. It’s also a highly abstract ‘exercise’; it’s due time for some reality-checks!
